THE JIGSAW PUZZLE

Numbers are like jigsaw pieces. They have different shapes and sizes. Once you know where all the pieces of the jigsaw fit together you can solve the jigsaw puzzle.

Picture
Without numbers nothing could be made. Everything would be a jigsaw puzzle which no one could solve.

Let’s look at some examples:

MUSIC
A piece of music has numbers. It cannot be composed or played on an instrument without numbers. The beat or rhythm of the music is created with numbers such as ¾ time or 4/4 time.

TIME
Time is not possible without numbers. Look at a clock. It has numbers 1-12. All the numbers have 5 spaces between them and each space is just 1 minute. The fingers of the clock move around the spaces like the earth turns in space and at the same speed.

A BUILDING
A building cannot be built without numbers. An architect (a person who draws a plan of a building) uses numbers to measure the space, height and width of a building. He draws lines that are numbered in centimeters or inches. He draws shapes: squares, rectangles and circles for the rooms; lines for doorways and corridors and frames for windows. Just try drawing a room without numbers to show how wide or long a room is and you will find it is impossible to do.

MONEY
Without numbers money would be impossible to make. You would not know the difference between $1 and $1000. Numbers are in everything. They are in prices, in lengths, in heights.

GOD CREATED EVERYTHING WITH NUMBERS
Numbers are in everything. Without numbers nothing could be made. When God created the world he began with numbers. First of all he created water. Did you know that water is made up of numbers? Water has 2 molecules of hydrogen and 1 of oxygen. We call water H2O. But you will soon learn that everything has parts and these parts have numbers. Ask your mum or dad to explain this.

THE HAIRS OF YOUR HEAD
Jesus, God’s Son said, ‘The very hairs of your head are all numbered.’ God knows how many cells you have in your body. He created you. He made you to be one person unlike any other. You are not a replica, (a copy) of anyone else because God made you YOU. You are not a crowd or a class or a species or a commoner. You are unique and dearly loved by God.

THE KEY AND THE LOCK
God created numbers. They are the key and the lock that opens and closes life. The years of our lives are all numbered with birthdays, anniversaries, times past and times for everything under heaven.

DETAIL
God made everything in great detail overlooking nothing to preserve our well being. Even when we get sick God has put herbs and seeds in the ground to make us better. God has numbered everything for he created all things intelligently and in time and order. King Solomon said, ‘There is a time for everything under heaven...a time to be born, a time to die, a time to laugh and a time to cry....’ (Ecclesiastes 3:2)

TIME IS IN GOD’S HANDS
Our time is in God’s care and keeping. Trust God to keep our time safe in his loving care.
