Weasel and Stoat Episode 4
‘Yes, it is strange for the door to be open, Stoaty. Are you sure this is the right cabin?’
‘It is! Look the number is 101. Let’s take a look inside.’
‘Fox! Fox! what are you doing here? The ship will leave in a few minutes.’
‘I got lost. I heard you say 101 is your cabin so I asked Mole to show me where it is.’
‘He must have thought you were a passenger. Visitors are not allowed below deck. Oh dear what was that noise?’
‘It’s the ships horn, Weasel. The ship is about to sail out to sea,’ Stoat said, anxiously.
‘Fox, you can’t stay here.’
‘What else can I do, Weasel, old pal?’
‘You can...you can,...and you can...’
Weasel was stuck for words.
‘Do you know what this means, Fox?’ Stoat asked.
‘It means I can’t leave the ship,’ Fox replied, happily.
‘No, it means you are a stowaway. It means you will be arrested and locked in the ship prison. Then when we reach land again you will be taken by the police and tried before a judge. You will be called a criminal.’
‘But it was just a mistake. I didn’t do it deliberately.’
‘The fact is you remained on board when you should have gone on shore,’ said Weasel. ‘You are in big trouble Fox, big trouble.’
‘You must hide me, Weasel. Let me stay here in your cabin.’
‘No, we can’t do that, Fox. This is our cabin. If you are seen here we will be arrested for hiding you.’
‘I have a better idea,’ Fox said, stroking his chin and nodding his head.
‘What?’ asked Weasel and Stoat.
‘Just hide me here till tonight. After that I won’t trouble you any longer.’
‘But what is your idea?’ asked Weasel.
‘It’s an idea, Fox repeated. ‘I can’t tell you what it is. It’s a secret idea.’
‘A secret idea?’ Stoat said.
‘Yes, it means no one can know about it.’
‘Yes, if it is a secret. But why hide it from us?’
‘Because, I am about to disappear and no one must know where I am.’
‘Disappear!’ exclaimed Weasel.
‘Yes, I am going to be a stowaway so I must disappear so that no one can find me.’
‘Well, you can stay here until night time but I think it would be better for you to see the captain and explain what has happened. He might forgive you or give you work in the engine room or the kitchen.’
‘Yes, he might. My idea is better because no one will know who I am, not even you.’
‘What on earth are you going to do?’ Weasel asked.
But Fox would not tell him.
‘Stoaty, I feel hungry. Let’s go and eat.’
‘Good idea,’ Stoaty replied.
