Weasel and Stoat Episode 6
‘Good morning Mole,’ said Weasel.
‘Good morning! I have some exciting news.’
‘Exciting news? How exciting?’
‘Very, very exciting. I have arrested a stowaway.’
‘That is exciting,’ Stoat said, looking very worried.
‘Yes, I suspected Fox from the start. Do you know why?’
‘No,’ replied Weasel. ‘Do tell us.’
‘Because he went to your cabin. It’s number 101 isn’t it?’
‘Yes it is,’ said Weasel.
‘I put two and two together. You said your cabin was number 101 and I remember Fox said he was looking for cabin 101. That’s the same as your number so I knew he must be a stowaway.’
‘How did you know that, Mole?’
‘Easy! If your cabin is 101 it could not be his. So if he doesn’t have a cabin he must be a stowaway. Isn’t that right?’
‘Well, yes Mole. If he doesn’t have a cabin he must be a stowaway, but where?’
‘I put myself in his position. I thought if I were a stowaway I would hide somewhere were no one could find me, somewhere were nobody goes.’
‘Really!’ exclaimed Stoat, ‘that is clever. Where would you hide?’
‘Why in the hold, of course.’
‘The hold? said Weasel.
‘Yes where all the passengers things are kept like motor cars and pianos and tables and chairs.’
‘And did you find Fox in the hold,’ asked Weasel.
‘Yes, I told the captain where he would be and we found him asleep on a sofa, a very soft, expensive sofa.’
‘Did you arrest him?’ asked Weasel.
‘Yes the man at arms put him in handcuffs. He’s now in the ship’s prison. Here is the breakfast dining room.’
‘Thank you Mole. Where is the prison?’
‘It’s on the 20th floor.’
‘Oh dear,’ Stoat said, when Mole was out of hearing. Is there anything we can do, Weasel?’
‘We must think of something, Stoaty. I don’t like Fox but he is our neighbour and he is in prison.
Weasel and Stoat had no appetite for breakfast. They both felt so bad.
‘You see Stoaty, Fox had no door on his house. He was desperate. Farmer Jake wanted him to leave. We must do something to help him. That is why he stayed on board. He had nowhere to go. We can’t forget about him can we?’
‘No we must think of something.’
‘We must get him out of prison.’
‘Yes, we must but how, Weasel? How?’
‘I don’t know yet.’
‘Fox might think of something himself,’ said Stoat.
‘We must visit Fox and talk to him. We must stand by him.’
‘That’s a good thought, Weasel. We might find some way of getting him out of prison.’
‘Good morning Mole,’ said Weasel.
